Writing Prompt #92

“Imagine you are a news anchor. Write the beginning of tonight’s newscast. Make the top story what you truly think could happen today, or what you wish would happen today.” {This was a fun assignment, since I have a degree and training in media.}

After a hot week of temperatures climbing to almost 90 degrees, some drizzling rain has moved in this weekend, causing temperatures to fall back down in the lower 70s. Here in _____ County, city workers have been diligently working to freshen up (a local park) with new mulch, flowers, and more as they prepare for the many city-wide summer events coming up.

For our top story, we turn to the I-## overpass at ______ Road, where construction continues to delay already heavy traffic in the area. Civil engineers on the project assure us that in the long run, we will see a dinificant improvement in traffic flow, but locals express frustration with the projected plans, which include various stages of construction over the course of several years. They feel that this length of time could cause serious traffic accidents before the project’s completion, especially since this area is near several schools and is a big retail district as well as part of the work commute for much of the county. We will continue to bring you updates on this local project as well as the new traffic patterns as they are sent into the newsroom.

“Humble and Kind”

If you’re a fan of country music, you’ve probably heard Tim McGraw’s song “Humble and Kind.” If we look at Luke 6:37-42, we see Jesus telling His disciples to stay humble and kind towards their brothers.

Humility and kindness often involves forgiveness, and often isn’t easy. It’s usually easier to find other’s faults, rather than to do some serious self-introspection. God asks us to first look at ourselves and see how we measure up to His commandments before we examine the faults of those around us.

Our standing before God, i.e. our personal faith, is more important than worrying about what everyone around us is or isn’t doing to honor God. We should also remember the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf, that makes us righteous, knowing that our salvation is “not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:9) This fact should make us truly humbled. Those who are humble should also be kind, since we at not any better than anyone else. Our good works do not attain our standing before God.

It is important, however, to kindly share the truth found in God’s Word. Sharing the truth is not a personal judgement – it’s telling how God judges righteously and does not tolerate sin.

Before listening to human preachers/teachers, we are commanded by God to “test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1)

The Bible says that we aren’t to judge using a standard we aren’t willing to uphold ourselves: “For in be same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:2)

Writing Prompt #91

“Write about a memorable experience you have had staying at a hotel.”

I loved staying with my husband at the Holiday Inn Express in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The hostess was so thoughtful and helpful and we really enjoyed the facility with the indoor pool and hot tub. It was relaxing with all the walking around Charlottetown we did during our stay. The rated were reasonable, and our room was very clean. We also enjoyed the included breakfast each morning. We would stay there again, if we go there again for vacation.

Writing Prompt #89

“What expert do you wish could come teach you what they know?”

I’ve already told one of my friends that I’d love to pay her dad, who is a great chef, to teach me in a few cooking lessons some fancier techniques that would help me to create even better meals in the kitchen for me and my husband and any friend or family we have over to visit.

Writing Prompt #88

“Write about the last one you felt guilty.”

I don’t do things I will feel guilty about very often. I think the last time I felt guilty was the other day when I did something I never do – I replaced a meal with candy bars! Oh my! I usually eat very healthy, so it was out of character for me and not good for my body either.

Writing Prompt #87

“Describe a time you cared for someone who was sick, or someone cared for you.”

The last time I was sick, my husband took very good care of me, trying to help me in any way he could. He brought me ginger ale and any food I felt up to eating (which wasn’t much). I’m so grateful for his loving help whenever I get sick.

Writing Prompt #86

“Write about the most recent gift you gave someone.”

I actually purchased a gift for my mom for Mother’s Day, but since I won’t be giving it to her for a couple of weeks, I can’t say much about it here, in case she’s reading this!

I can say that I’m looking forward to spending Mother’s Day with her (well, in the evening – Mom and Dad will be driving up here that day). I’m blessed that they’re able to come up here for it, since I won’t be off of work until the end of the school year, at the very end of the month. It’s always wonderful to see them, so I’m actually receiving more of a gift than I’m giving. 😊

Writing Prompt #85

“Write about a time you said no.”

I’m a preschool teacher – I say “no” quite often during each work day! I have to keep the kids in my class safe and make sure they’re being kind, sharing toys, etc. Saying “no” to little children may seem less pleasant than allowing them to do what they want, but when they’re small, what they want to do is often unsafe, unkind, or spreads germs, so saying “no” to many of their behaviors is actually kind in the long run.

Writing Prompt #84

“Describe (in a creative way) how you feel when you have a head cold.”

When I do have a head cold (or a sinus infection, which is even worse!), I don’t feel very creative! My face feels so much pressure that it feels like it will explode. My ears drain, so it sounds as though I’m underwater, since I can’t hear clearly. My throat becomes sore and irritated from all the drainage, so it becomes even more difficult to breathe, and I lose all enjoyment of eating food. Everything is flavourless and most difficult to swallow. My head hurts whenever I encounter bright light, and even if I am so sick that I take off work, I can’t enjoy the time off at all, due to all the symptoms. Plain and simple: colds are no fun!
