“Complete this thought: ‘I wish I had paid more attention when…'”
I wish I had paid more attention when I first met a certain former friend who turned out not to be at all who they said they were, or who they pretended to be. I usually see that which is best in people, before noticing their faults, and have been too trusting too quickly in my past, and gotten hurt as a result.
I didn’t realize that even initial trust must be earned, not automatically given. Sadly, many people are not deserving of your trust and are not in reality the person they pretend to be. I would have had several years of my life where I was not depressed, frustrated, and even worried for my safety. That experience was a lesson in paying attention and using caution upon first meeting anyone.
