“If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins…who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.” – Psalm 130:3,4
Despite our many short comings and sins, Jesus stands ready to both save and forgive those who are His people. “For He (God the Father) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in Whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13,14) “But with You there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve You.” (Psalm 130:4) “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us.” (Ephesians 1:7,8a)
This is the message of the Gospel that we ought to share with others – that Jesus saves and forgives! “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.” (Acts 13:38)
“And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for Him, to give His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.” (Luke 1:76,77) Like John, in the aforementioned verse, we are to explain to others the significance of Jesus’ coming to earth.
