Jesus Is The Lord Our Righteousness

“In Jesus we find – peace, and the Prince of Peace; righteousness, and the Righteous One; counsel, and the Counselor; wonders, and the Wonderful One; nourishment, and the Bread of Life; care, and the Good Shepherd; strength, and the Mighty God; salvation, and the Saviour.” – Roy Lessin (*quote, not Scripture)
“The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.” (Jeremiah 51:10) “In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which He will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.” (Jeremiah 23:6)

The Lord is perfect in His righteousness – He does not sin like mankind. “To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame, as at this day, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those who are near and those who are far away, in all the lands to which You have driven them, because of the treachery that they have committed against You.” (Daniel 9:7)

Because the righteousness and justice of the Lord is coupled with His mercy and grace, we can ask for His forgiveness. “Lord, in keeping with all Your righteous acts, turn away Your anger and Your wrath from Jerusalem, Your city, Your holy hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors have made Jerusalem and Your people an object of scorn to all those around us.” (Daniel 9:16)

That thought literally came to me as I was writing this – how God has ALL of those qualities, some of which seem to be opposites, at ONE TIME and therefore has the grace and mercy to grant forgiveness despite His righteousness and justice that can’t tolerate the presence of sin and evil. I’m glad this concept made your day better too!
