” ‘ I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’ ” – John 8:58
Jesus is the great I Am, the Messiah, the Son of God, and Savior of the World. “But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked Him, ‘Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?’ ‘I am,’ said Jesus. ‘And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ ” (Mark 14:61-62)
In the garden, as He agonized in prayer to His Father before His crucifixion, Jesus admitted readily that He was the One Whom the soldiers were seeking to arrest, even though He knew the torture that awaited Him. “Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to Him, went out and asked them, ‘Who is it you want?’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ they replied. ‘I am He,’ Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)” (John 18:5)
Jesus had always fulfilled historical, Biblical prophecy regarding the coming of the Messiah, and He always has identified Himself as the Son of God. He has never denied Who He is – He always says, “I Am!”.
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I, the One speaking to you — I am He,'” when confronted with questions from the woman at the well, who marvelled at how much He knew about her without having met her previously. (John 4:26)
