Jesus Is Our Rest.

“Peace does not dwell in outward things, but in the heart prepared to wait trustfully and quietly on Him Who has all things safely in His hands.” – Elisabeth Elliot (*quote, not Scripture)

When we know that Jesus is our All in All, our Savior and Redeemer, our Comforter, and so much more, we can find rest for our weary souls in His arms and in His Word. “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my Hope comes from Him” (Psalm 62:5)

Any peace we experience is given to us by God, even that experienced by individual nations. “For David had said, ‘Since the Lord, the God of Israel, has granted rest to His people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever, the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service.’ ” (1 Chronicles 23: 25,26)

The Lord also grants rest to individuals in their time of need. “But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster.” (1 Kings 5:4) Our faith itself may grow weary from time to time, as we can feel like we’re losing hope while waiting for God to act in a situation, but our faith can find rest in His might. “So that your faith may not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” (1 Chronicles 2:5)
