“Remember this…knowing that God knows and meets our need doesn’t keep us from praying – it allows us to pray in faith.” – Roy Lessin (*quote, not Scripture)
God knows exactly what we need – He is our Creator, after all. He is also our Provider. He gives us what He knows we truly need, on His schedule. “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
Jesus not only cares for our physical needs, but also cares for our spiritual needs, before we even recognize our need for Him. He did not come for those who think they are righteous enough on their own that they believe they have no need for salvation. He came for those who admit they are nothing without His mercy and grace. “…Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’ ” (Mark 2:17)
Jesus instructed us to remember that He already knows our need, as we pray. “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” (Matthew 6:7,8) He then gave us the Lord’s Prayer – a good way to keep our requests simples and to the point.
