“Somehow you faced death and the terrible pain of bearing our sin. You became our Redeemer, and made it possible for us to be lovely and pure like the snow-sculpted clouds…and as free.” – Leona Enns Hepburn (*quote, not Scripture)
Even before the birth of Jesus, people living under the laws of the Old Testament knew of the Messiah who was to come, and faithfully awaited His arrival. “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand on the earth.” (Job 19:25)
Not only is God a righteous judge; He is also our King and Redeemer. “This is what the Lord says –Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: ‘I am the first and I am the last; apart from Me there is no God.’ ” (Isaiah 44:6) Jesus was sent as our Redeemer, to show us our need for Him and to sacrifice on our behalf. ” ‘The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,’ declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 59:20)
Jesus was our Redeemer before our very existence! “This is what the Lord says — your Redeemer, Who formed you in the womb: ‘I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, Who stretches our the heavens, Who spreads out the earth by Myself.’ ” (Isaiah44:24) We truly serve an amazing God, Who both created and redeemed us!
