“A voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.’ ” – Matthew 3:17
The Lord takes someone being anointed as a serious matter. The people of Israel were instructed to honor even ungodly kings, because they had begged God to give them a king and He had His prophets anoint kings to rule over them.
“For the sake of Your servant David, do not reject the king You have anointed.” (Psalm 132:10) God places even evil leaders at the right place at the right time, for His ultimate purpose and plan. “…He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45)
Earthly kings and earthly governments are very temporary, especially in the light of eternity. God has made Jesus the holy Anointed One forever, and He will rule over all – at the final judgment, everyone will admit that He rules over all. “Those who oppose the Lord will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven; the Lord will judge the ends of the earth. ‘He will give strength to His king and exalt the horn of His anointed.’ ” (1 Samuel 2:10) ” ‘ The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah, and He will reign forever and ever.’ ” (Revelation 11:15b)
