“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29
As with Abraham’s sacrifice – “Abraham answered, ‘God will provide a lamb for the burnt offering, Son.’ ” (Genesis 22:8) – God provided Jesus as the sacrifice for our sin: “the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’ ” (John 1:29) Jesus is in the presence of God for all eternity – He is one with the Father. “…The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.” (Revelation 21:22) His sacrifice makes Him our Lamb – the spotless One who atones for us.
As He sacrificed His life for us, so we are also commanded to lay down our lives for the sake of His Gospel message. We are to also sacrifice many of our desires in order to better love others. “Greater love has no on than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sister, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God…” (Romans 12:1)
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (1 John 3:16)
