“You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.” – Psalm 16:11
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.” (Psalm 95:1) Joy in Jesus doesn’t always mean earthly happiness, but it does mean a lasting satisfaction and peace…even in the most difficult of times: “for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, ‘Sing us one of the songs of Zion!’ ” (Psalm 137:3) Even the wicked can recognize the joy that worshipping Jesus brings His followers.
Sharing the love of Christ brings joy, as we witness for Him. The Apostle Paul found this to be true many times over. “I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.” (2 Corinthians 7:46) This really brings us courage during hard times. Since Jesus has done so much for us (His sacrifice for our sins) and continues to do so (loves, sanctifies, and protects us), our everlasting joy can be found in reflecting on Him, in thanking Him, and in trusting Him. When dark times come, “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10c)
