“Jesus said, ‘He…who comes to Me and hears My words and puts them into practice…is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.” – Luke 6:47-48
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the One we already have – Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 3:11) As the old hymn so aptly puts it, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand” (written by Edward Mote, c. 1834).
Christ must be our all in all, the foundation of our life, and the center of our worldview. “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” (Luke 6:47-49) Without a strong foundation built on Jesus Christ, we may easily fall away and come to ruin, if the storms of life seem too difficult to bear, or if false teachers come along proclaiming a doctrine that is not of God.
