“The Cross boldly stands against the confusion of our world, a beacon of hope in the midst of darkness and doubt. In the Cross…we find answers to life’s deepest questions…Never underestimate what Christ did for us through the Cross.” – Billy Graham (*quote, not Scripture)
“What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!…Nothing can my sin erase, Nothing but the blood of Jesus!…This is all my righteousness – nothing but the blood of Jesus!” (hymn writer, Robert Lowry) Jesus is our answer to how we may be free from the curse of sin. “Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” (Psalm 51:2)
The cross does not make sense to those who have hardened hearts, but to those of us who have the Holy Spirit at work in us, it is truly the power of God to save and redeem, to make vessels of dishonor into vessels of honor. “For the message of the cross is foolish to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18) “But we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:23,24) The problem of sin must be answered by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, because unrequited sin separates from God.
