“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice He judges.” – Revelation 19:11
Jesus is God: “I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30) God cannot go against His character, and as a perfect, flawless Being, sin cannot even enter His presence. Because God and Jesus are just, we as sinners (we can’t keep His commands perfectly) cannot enter His presence without being free of sin. It is the justice of God that damns us for all eternity, but for the merciful sacrifice of Jesus as the perfect fulfillment of the law, Who took our sins upon Himself and conquered death, that we who were once dead in our sins might walk in eternal life in His presence.
If Jesus were only just, and the quality of mercy was absent, we would never be able to have any sort of a relationship with our Holy, Righteous God. Thanks be to God Our Father and Our Lord Jesus Christ that justice is not the only aspect of His character! “He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.” (Deuteronomy 32:4) “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
